the bleeding edge Manchester, CT, 1997

The heart of this project is a network of 40 computers dedicated to multi-player gaming. The design consists of a series of inserted objects inspired by the colorful blocky nature of the animation graphics commonly found in the games played here. In 1997, these games relied on color and movement rather than graphic detail.

The inserted objects house retail display, refreshment area, toilet rooms, office/storage and an entry vestibule. The existing space is reduced to its essential elements: natural concrete floor, plain white walls and a hung ceiling with randomly located lights. The result is a lively, active space that takes it's cues from the games played by the occupants.
